The Oregon Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence (OCADSV) and the Oregon Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Task Force (AGSATF) invite you to take part in Oregon’s first official Teen Dating Violence Action Month this February.
Across the state, young people have been organizing for years with dedicated community partners to address the pervasive violence that they may experience. In order to help support these efforts, this is the first year we asked Oregon’s Governor Kate Brown to officially declare February Teen Dating Violence Action Month.
Dating violence often has negative impacts on the health and well-being of individuals and communities. Teens who are victims are more likely to be depressed, experience eating disorders, do poorly in school, think about or attempt suicide, and engage in unhealthy behaviors such as drug and alcohol use. For these reasons, AGSATF and OCADSV are excited to work with you all as we officially proclaim February, Teen Dating Violence Action Month.
During February, we will send out electronic digest mailings with tools and resources to assist your organization in planning, publicizing, and implementing TDVAM activities. Additionally, we will be highlighting incredible work that Oregon domestic and sexual violence programs have been leading with youth. All these materials, plus additional resources, are also available electronically at ocadsv.org/tdvam.
The materials and resources developed and implemented this month can be used and built upon well beyond February. Every community in Oregon has a critical role to play in mobilizing to address systemic oppression and inequity, which are the underlying root causes of violence. Join us in promoting community-based prevention, social justice, and healthy sexuality.
