As advocates it can be difficult to provide the same safety planning techniques to youth as adult survivors becasue youth are not eligible to get a restrainning order against another youth after experiencing intimate partner violence. Youth also face added obstacles of such as the survivor attending the same school as their perpetrator. Providing proper education for teens on how trauma and unhealthy relationships can affect them is vital to effective and empowering safety planning and providing trauma—informed services. Attendees of this workshop will be provided with tools and techniques for working with youth and supporting them in finding creative options for safety planning and seeking trauma services. This workshop will also provide practical tools for working with LGBTQ youth survivors and youth from communities of color. This workshop will use a discussion style format as well as a powerpoint presentation. Participants will engage in an art activity used in prevention work with teens.
