Financial assistance and crime victims’ compensation

Temporary Assistance for Domestic Violence Survivors (TA-DVS)

Administered by the Oregon Department of Human Services – Self-Sufficiency Office.

This program provides short-term cash grants (up to $1200.00 over a 90 day eligibility period) to support families whose safety is at risk due to domestic violence. Most often this is when the domestic violence survivor and the children are fleeing domestic violence or at risk of returning to an abusive situation.

Crime Victims’ Compensation

Administered by the Oregon Department of Justice – Crime Victim and Survivor Services Division.

In the aftermath of a crime, the Oregon Crime Victim’s Compensation Program works to ease the financial burden suffered by victims and their family members. These funds can be used for:

  • Mental health counseling expenses
  • Medical and hospital expenses
  • Eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures and other medically necessary devices and expenses
  • Rehabilitation expenses
  • Loss of earnings
  • Funeral expenses
  • Financial support to dependents of homicide victims
  • Grief counseling expenses for relatives of homicide victims
  • Counseling expenses for children who witness domestic violence
  • Counseling expenses for family members of an Oregon resident who is a victim of international terrorism

Sexual Assault Victims’ Emergency Medical Response (SAVE) Fund

Administered by the Oregon Department of Justice – Crime Victim and Survivor Services Division.

The Sexual Assault Victims’ Emergency Medical Response (SAVE) Fund makes medical exams available to every victim of sexual assault in Oregon – regardless of your ability to pay.

If you are a victim of sexual assault, the SAVE Fund will pay for:

  • the cost of a sexual assault medical exam
  • medications to prevent sexually transmitted diseases
  • emergency contraception
  • pregnancy test up to 7 days after the assault
  • up to 5 counseling sessions

Medical providers have SAVE Fund applications on site and will help you complete the short, confidential form. The medical provider will then submit the application, along with a bill, to the Crime Victims’ Services Division.

Victims of sexual assault are also encouraged to apply to the Oregon Crime Victims’ Compensation Program.
