Wondering how youth in Oregon experience detention and incarceration, and what happens when they are sexually assaulted while inside? This webinar will provide community-based sexual assault advocates an understanding of Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) systems and services. It will address how youth enter and exit OYA, continuum of services, and differences and similarities between OYA and Department of Corrections (DOC). Opportunities for collaboration, including how advocacy could look by phone and in person, referral processes and MOUs, will also be covered.

Monday, May 22, 2017 - 1:00pm to 2:30pm

Join us as we continue our conversation about how to navigate the various dynamics of serving LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual) youth who are incarcerated.  This webinar will be an interactive discussion focusing on strategies to keep LGBTQIA youth safe in facilities while still offering supportive and gender affirming services. Featuring consultant Neola Young.

Thursday, May 4, 2017 - 1:00pm

In this webinar we will explore the chronology of a PREA investigation. We will begin with a youth making an initial report and follow the sequence of events that should follow including:  First responder duties, sexual assault exams, advocacy resources, investigative interviews, the required mental health and retaliation tracking, and making notifications to youth regarding the outcome or disposition.

Tuesday, March 21, 2017 - 2:30pm to 4:00pm

Join us as we learn more about how to interact professionally with LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual) youth who are in custody of the Oregon Youth Authority. During the webinar, we will address terms and definitions, advice on how to support individuals at risk of abuse based on sexual orientation and gender, and managing disclosure of LGBTQIA identities.

Thursday, January 12, 2017 - 11:00am

Just Detention International (JDI) will be providing information on traumaresponses in detention/close custody settings, including the physiological and psychological impacts of sexual harassment and abuse.  JDI is a health and human rights organization that seeks to end sexual violence in all forms in detention.

Thursday, December 8, 2016 - 11:00am

This webinar will include a panel of community-based advocates who will describe the role of an advocate before, during, and after a PREA investigation.  It will also include a very brief overview of the services provided by advocacy programs and the process OYA follows to connect youth with advocates if they request.

Tuesday, June 9, 2015 - 11:00am to 12:30pm

Join us for a review of the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) as it pertains to Oregon. We will be joined by guest presenters from the Oregon Sexual Assault Task Force, the Oregon Youth Authority, and the Oregon Department of Corrections to explore the basics of PREA, how it affects federal, state, county and local institutions and systems, and what is being developed and implemented to improve outreach and services for incarcerated survivors.
